⭐ ORAL HISTORY OVERVIEW

  1. Reflect on the meaning and purpose of this project. Take a deep breath. This is a process to handle with care and respect, for both you and your interviewee.

  2. Choose who to interview.

    1. If you need help finding a person to interview, please contact the Archival working group ([email protected], put “archival” in subject) or attend office hours. (See hours and link below.)
  3. Contact your interviewee to explain the project and find out if they are willing to participate.

  4. At some point throughout this process, please collect two consent forms. Download and fill the following: Deed of gift and Release form.

  5. Schedule a day to interview: Set aside as much time as needed. Make sure to mark this day in your calendar.

  6. Prepare your tools. Practice your recording method, whether it’s zoom or in person. If needed, attend an office hour with a live FANHS member to guide you through the process. Info below!

  7. Prepare your questions.

  8. Conduct and record `the actual interview.

  9. If you’d like to submit your interview to be archived, please message the FANHS Archival working group with your name and a brief abstract and keywords of your interview. Email: (put “archival” in subject) [email protected]

  10. Feel free to reflect on the process and celebrate. Your stories will now be preserved for the generations to come.
